Owner/Director Studio IPF: Inner Pursuit Fitness TRX Training, Yin Yoga, Fusion Flow, FIT 45, Pilates
I am passionate and some would say “extremely enthusiastic” about health and fitness. I love showing people how great moving their body can feel, and that exercise can be fun! I strongly believe in the power of movement to create positive change.
In 2002, Island Pilates was formed when I moved back to the Comox Valley after being away for 14 years. In 2013, we officially changed the name of the studio to Studio IPF: Inner Pursuit Fitness. Though once solely devoted to the practice of Pilates, Studio IPF has transformed into a multifaceted health & fitness studio, winning the title of Best Yoga/Pilates Studio in Western Canada, by Get Out There Magazine in 2011. In 2015, I was voted the “Person Most Likely to Whip you Into Shape,” by the Comox Valley Record’s Best Of contest. I am a certified STOTT Pilates Matwork Instructor, a BCRPA Advanced Group Fitness Leader, a certified Yin Yoga Teacher, a certified BOSU Integrated Balance Trainer Instructor, a TRX Suspension Trainer and is a 200 hour Registered Yoga Teacher.
I strive to make the studio a positive, healthy, fun, community experience. I am so grateful for my amazing team and greatly appreciate the diverse talent and professionalism that they bring to IPF.
Morning Flow Yoga, Sculpt Flow and Yin Yoga
I’ve been teaching Yoga and Fitness for 25 years and I have a background in Kinesiology and Exercise Rehabilitation. I am a Yoga Therapist, Trainer of Fitness Leaders (BCRPA) and Personal Trainer.
I love what I do and feel grateful to have so many people to share it with!
Zumba and Fusion Flow
I have always had a passion for movement and started with the dancing stuff at an early age. After a short time I was lining up my friends and stepping into the role of “instructor”…. and so the journey began!! The smiles have been the best part!
I have experience with various styles of dance having trained at Main Dance Society in Vancouver where I completed a performing arts degree. I was a company member of Variable Velocity Modern Dance Troupe out of San Luis Obispo, California. I’ve been certified in the Iyengar style of yoga through the Santa Barbara Yoga Institute and obtained Pilates certificates through the Physical Mind Institute of Canada.
Hatha Flow Yoga
I’ve been teaching yoga since 2005. I was initially drawn to yoga as a modality for holistic health and have been strongly influenced by the Krishnamacharya lineage in practices such as Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vijnana, Viniyoga, vinyasa and restorative yoga. As a Registered Nurse, I am particularly interested in adaptation of the yoga practice to meet the changing needs of the body/mind/spirit. My classes are anchored in mindful movement and my aim is always to ensure a safe, inclusive space for all participants.
IPF Barre Workout
I have always enjoyed staying fit through dance and many types of fitness classes and I love the energy that is created in a class setting.
I did my Pilates training with Pilates Unlimited Vancouver, in 2005, and in 2016 completed my Barre training through Spectrum Certifications at Alive in Victoria.
IPF FIT 45, IPF 28 Day Challenge Coach & Director of IPF Membership
I am a BCRPA certified Group Fitness instructor and I teach IPF FIT 45 classes and coach IPF Fitness Challenges. My husband and I started taking classes at IPF in 2009 and I’ve been here ever since! I was motivated to become an instructor by the joy and inspiration I found coaching IPF Fitness Challenges. I love the community created by my relationships at IPF and I’m passionate about spreading my love for health, fitness and body positivity in all of my classes.
IPF FIT 45, Rise & Rock Bootcamp, IPF Challenge Coach
I am a BCRPA certified group fitness instructor. My love of movement, desire to connect with others, and love of Studio IPF and all it has to offer led me to begin teaching fitness classes in 2014.
Lunchtime Yoga Flow
My name is Jessica Carter, however, at studio IPF I’m known just as Carter. I’ve been teaching classes at studio IPF since spring 2016, covering various styles of yoga as well as barre fitness. My background for teaching comes from dance and yoga. Growing up as a dancer I found a great love for movement and explored many different styles of dance. I finished my 200 hour teacher training through Red Door Yoga in fall 2017. I became interested in yoga for personal reasons of self healing, and to find a better understanding of my physical and mental health. My personal yoga practice is focused more inwards and has become a journey to find balance within the mind. As a yoga teacher I focus more on the physical practice, finding proper alignment and creating balance within the body.
Hatha Yoga, BUTI Yoga and Groove
I have been teaching fitness for more than 10 years. After returning to school to train as a Registered Massage Therapist, I went on to complete my Yoga Teacher Training and 500 hour Advanced Teacher of Therapeutic Yoga certification.
I hold a number of certificates including Buti Yoga, Buti Deep, Buti Sculpt, GROOVE and most recently, Barre. I have trained in a variety of yoga formats, including flow, yoga Nidra, prenatal yoga, chair yoga and more. I have a special interest in Myofascial Release/ball rolling, as well as other restorative practices. I’m proud to be an ambassador for the World Body Image Movement.
Having once been a professional dancer and choreographer, I’ve experienced first hand the hard work and commitment it takes to reach ones goals. As an ACE certified group exercise and Stott trained pilates professional, I apply these principles and dedication to all of my classes and clients.
Yoga and post and prenatal classes
I teach vinyasa, yin, restorative, hatha, prenatal and mom and baby yoga. My classes are dynamic, thought provoking, empowering, light hearted and most importantly fun! I first came to yoga as a coping method for stress and grief and I saw the positive transformative power that it brought to my life – improving my state of mind, health and overall well-being. I wanted to become a teacher in order to share that with others and continue to spread the light to make this world a brighter place. The idea that I can be involved in someone else’s healing, journey, life, is fascinating and incredibly humbling. Hope to see you on the mat!
